CALENDAR OF EVENTS:

2nd Follow-Up Think-Tank Meeting will be held Tuesday, February 2nd from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Comfort Suites on the Circle at 2700 LaSalle Ave.

These meetings will give residents, Chamber members, business owners, and City Officials the opportunity to discuss and implement the best "Shop Local" Campaign ever!

Who Can Participate?

The Chamber encourages involvement of all local businesses - chamber membership is not required. The Shop Local campaign is intended to reinforce the chamber's motto, "Come Grow With Us!"

Our Mission:

Stay Local! is about Small Town Values. Just as your friends and neighbors support you in your everyday life...you in turn are able to support them. By shopping locally you do just that! Help keep the Mom & Pop shops alive and patronize the people you work with every day in your community!

Stay Local! is about Commerce. We understand the positive economic impact of keeping dollars circulating within the local economy.

Stay Local! is about Environment. A strong economy is a sustainable economy, and a sustainable economy is one with as many built-in local networks as possible. We want to make staying local with purchasing decisions as easy as possible for all consumers.

Be Aware of the Impact of your Dollars
An article written and published by the CIBA

"A locally owned independent business returns approximately 80% of each dollar spent back to the community. Local, independent businesses assist the community through a “multiplier effect”: one dollar spent at a locally owned business will return five times that amount within the community through city taxes, employees’ wages, and purchase of materials and supplies at other independent businesses. In addition, these businesses will turn that dollar back into the community through school funding, social services, and contributions to local non-profit organizations.

Chains and franchises contribute roughly 40% and at times as little as 20% of the store’s sales back into the community through employee wages, sales taxes, and property taxes. Frequently, a chain store's location is owned by the larger non local company, and the business is given tax breaks by the city in order for shareholder profits to remain high. Locally owned independent businesses do not receive such benefits and thus contribute a far greater proportion of revenues to local taxes."

Choice makes for a richer community

The City of Robinson has a large number of independent and locally owned businesses.

These businesses add to the character that is Robinson. "They contribute more than just goods and services. They offer personalized attention, add diversity to our shopping options, and bring life to historic buildings. And they pay their employees—and local taxes—with the income they receive. Each time you choose to spend your dollars at a local, independent business, you are voting for the continued strength and vitality of our community."

Top Ten Reasons to Shop Local

We all know how great it is to shop locally in Robinson, Texas, but there’s more to it then just that:

1. Protect Local Character and Prosperity

Robinson, Texas is unique in many ways. You can live in Robinson and have your children go to 4 different school districts...it has access to all the major transportation systems in Texas, and it has an immense amount of land at its disposal. Robinson has an awesome opportunity to grow and prosper even more so. By choosing to support locally owned businesses, you help maintain Robinson's diversity!

2. Community Well-Being

Locally owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors, and by contributing more to local causes.

3. Local Decision Making

Local ownership means that important decisions are made locally by people who live in the community and who will feel the impacts of those decisions.

4. Keeping Dollars in the Local Economy

Your dollars spent in locally-owned businesses have three times the impact on your community as dollars spent at national chains. When shopping locally, you simultaneously create jobs, fund more city services through sales tax, invest in neighborhood improvement and promote community development.

5. Job and Wages

Locally owned businesses create more jobs locally and, in some sectors, provide better wages and benefits than chains do.

6. Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship fuels America’s economic innovation and prosperity, and serves as a key means for families to move out of low-wage jobs and into the middle class.

7. Public Benefits and Costs

Local stores in town centers require comparatively little infrastructure and make more efficient use of public services relative to big box stores and strip shopping malls.

8. Environmental Sustainability

Local stores help to sustain vibrant, compact, walkable town centers-which in turn are essential to reducing sprawl, automobile use, habitat loss, and air and water pollution.

9. Competition

A marketplace of hundreds of small businesses is the best way to ensure innovation and low prices over the long-term.

10. Product Diversity

A multitude of small businesses, each selecting products based, not on a national sales plan, but on their own interests and the needs of their local customers, guarantees a much broader range of product choices and unique services.

What is a "Shop Local" Campaign, and how can it help MY Business?
What an excellent question! The answer is simple...a Shop Local Campaign is nothing more then a group of community leaders, business owners and residents coming together to promote hometown shopping. This city-wide initiative for creating strong economies is based on locally owned and operated businesses. We encourage consumers to shop locally and help independent businesses compete more effectively.

Shopping locally helps YOUR own business in MANY ways! First and foremost, it stimulates the economy and thus drives more business your way. Getting folks to buy your products and services isn't the hard part. It's getting them into your doors that's more difficult. Once people realize what your business has to offer they will keep coming back for more!

The Shop Robinson Campaign was designed with that theory in mind. Get clients and shoppers in your doors...make your business more money! The Greater Robinson Chamber of Commerce hopes to develop this program to do just that!

We'd like to give a special thank you to Hampton Inn & Suites - South Waco for their generous use of their facilities for our 1st Think-Tank Meeting. Please check out their website and let them know the Chamber sent you!
